Nathan Phillips Square

Nathan Phillips Square is a famous landmark found in the center of Toronto. It is a lively public gathering place located immediately in front of Toronto City Hall, on the northwest corner of Queen and Bay Streets.

The Square is named for Nathan Phillips, who was Mayor of Toronto from 1955 to 1962.

The arches over the reflecting pond/ice rink were officially named "Freedom Arches" in 1989.

During winter, the pond becomes a skating rink to ice skaters who would normally skate in the evening and be captivated by the glowing lights.

Photo was taken on Oct. 4, 2008 during the Nuit Blanche festival.
In the background, one can see the old Toronto City Hall.
