Me and my family had the opportunity to travel to Chicago - known as the Windy City, in September of 2004. One place that we did not miss to visit was the Soldier Field. The pictures above were taken while we were strolling the coast along Soldier Field. They were taken using my ever reliable Canon PowerShot A70.
It was kind of hazy as it made the sailboats look like seagulls from a distance. But I remembered it was hot that day with not much wind.

Get a good book on photography from your library to understand composition, lighting, framing, etc. This will give you the basics. Try to start on a book with the old SLRs as many of the concepts still apply. Understand all the functions of your camera and how they can be controlled to get the picture you want.
